The Mountainlair Student Union Building at West Virginia University.

The Mountainlair, commonly called "the Lair" by students, is the three-floor student union building at West Virginia University. The current building dates to 1968 and replaced an earlier structure built in 1948.

Musician John Mayer performed a free show at the Mountainlair in 2006 .

The Mountainlair is also the site of American sculptor Donald De Lue's 1971 statue The Mountaineer, a bronze representation of West Virginia University's Mountaineer mascot.

Description

The student union offers many services to students including an information desk, lounges, a post office, movie theater, bowling alley, pool hall, video game arcade, and a cafeteria style restaurant.

Along with these recreational facilities, the Mountainlair is also home to a large events ballroom, several meeting and conference rooms, and many administrative offices of the university. In addition, The Student Government Association (SGA) and other student organizations of special interest hold offices in the Student Organization Wing (SOW) of the Mountainlair, including the Hockey Club, Muslim Student Organizations, and Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity. The Mountainlair is also home to the campus bookstore (managed and stocked by Barnes and Noble) and university shop.

WVU "Up All Night"

A long-running program to provide alternatives to drinking and the Morgantown party scene is Up All Night. On Thursday, Friday, Saturday , free food and soft drinks are provided, as well as entertainment such as Laser Tag, Make-your-own Music Video, live Game Shows, and more. The Mountainlair is closed to persons without student ID during this program. Starting at midnight breakfast is severed in Hatfield's featuring eggs, bacon, pancakes, sausages, and other favorites. This breakfront is refereed to as "drunk breakfast" by the student body since most of the bar specials end at midnight the student get some food before taking the "drunk bus" home.
