Requested moves is a place for requesting the retitling of an article, a template, or a page in the Wikipedia namespace. Any logged-in user who has been registered for more than four days and has made at least ten edits can use the [move] tab located at the top of each page to perform simple moves (see Help:Moving a page). Unregistered users and users not yet confirmed may request moves here. Administrator help is required in some situations. Such moves can also be listed here.
In some situations the appropriateness of a move may be under dispute, and discussion is necessary in order to reach a consensus. There is no obligation to list such move requests here; this page may be seen as a place to advertise move debates that would benefit from wider community input, or for users to request assistance from administrators in moving pages. In the section Current discussions requests can be explained shortly.
Discussions about retitling of an article (page move) can always be carried out at the article's talk page without adding an entry here. See the directions in the section Requesting potentially controversial moves.
Most move requests are processed by a handful of regular contributors who are familiar with naming conventions, nonbinding precedents, and page moving procedures. Two pages often cited during move discussions, which you might want to familiarize yourself with before making your request, are our naming convention regarding primary topics and our guideline on using common English names. Requests are generally processed after seven days, although backlogs of a few days develop occasionally. If there is a clear consensus after this time, the request will be closed and acted upon. If not, the closer may choose to re-list the request to allow time for consensus to develop, or close it as "no consensus". The processes involved in closing requests, performing moves and necessary tidying tasks when a move is performed can be viewed at closing instructions.
Processes beyond the scope of this page
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
This process is only necessary if there is any reason to believe a requested move would be contested.
A new section should be made on the talk page of the discussed page, as explained in the section below. For uncontroversial move requests (e.g. spelling and capitalization fixes), see Uncontroversial requests below.
Requesting a single page move
If your proposal involves moving more than one page -- for example, if you will need to move one page in order to move another page to that title -- please use the process for "Requesting multiple page moves" below.
Create a section at the bottom of the talk page of the page you want to be moved. It should be formatted like this:
== Requested move ==
{{subst:move|NewName}} A short reason for page name change. ~~~~
The name of the section does not necessarily need to be "Requested move", though it is suggested. "NewName" is what you want the new name of the page to be.
This can also be done by clicking the "new section" tab on the talk page and inserting {{subst:RMtalk|Proposed new name|Reason for move.}} Note that the Subject/headline should be left blank, as the heading, Requested move, is created along with a location for survey and discussion by this template, and that the template must be substituted. The template will also automatically include your signature.
Requesting multiple page moves
On one of the talk pages of the affected articles, create a request and format it as below. The following is an example for three pages. Note that the talk page of current1 is where the discussion is to take place.
== Requested move ==
{{subst:move-multi
| current1 = Current title of page 1
| new1 = New title for page 1
| current2 = Current title of page 2
| new2 = New title for page 2
| current3 = Current title for page 3
| new3 = New title for page 3
| reason = A short reason for page name change. Do not sign this.
}}
Uncontroversial requests
If the move you are suggesting is uncontroversial (e.g. spelling and capitalization), please feel free to move the page yourself. If you cannot move the page yourself, then request it below. Only list proposals here that are clearly uncontroversial but require assistance from an administrator or confirmed user.
If the only obstacle to an uncontroversial move is a navigation aid (e.g., a redirect or an unnecessary disambiguation page with a minor edit history), the template {{db-move}} can be used instead to have that page deleted under criterion for speedy deletion G6. Note that this template requires two parameters: {{db-move|page to be moved here|reason for move}}.
If there has been any past debate about the best title for the page, or if anyone could reasonably disagree with the move, then treat it as controversial. Otherwise, post your request in this section. If the page has recently been moved without discussion, then you may revert the move (although this is not necessary) and initiate a discussion of the move on the talk page of the article. (See also: Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle.) If this reversion requires administrator assistance, it is also eligible to be listed here. When listing this kind of request, please include a link showing that you have attempted to discuss the page move first.
Please list new requests at the bottom of the list in this section and use {{subst:RMassist|Old page name|Requested name|Reason for move}} rather than copying previous entries. The template will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. No edits to the article's talk page are required.
If you object to a proposal listed here, please relist it in the Contested requests section below.
Current requests
Contested requests
This is the place for a brief description of the problem or objection to the move proposal, please do not discuss move proposals here. Proposals that remain here after seven days will be removed.
Current discussions
There is no need to edit this list manually; a bot will automatically update the page soon after the {{subst:move}} template is added to the discussion on the relevant talk page. The entry is removed automatically when the discussion is closed. To make a change to an entry, make the change on the linked talk page.
(Discuss) — Matthew the Evangelist → Saint Matthew — I know this was recently dealt with as part of a proposed block move of four articles, but it appeared that some people did not regard the issues as quite identical in each of the four cases. I have therefore decided to deal with these four articles on an individual basis, starting with what appears to me to be the clearest-cut case, and see how it goes. "Saint Matthew" already redirects here, it is surely his common name, "Matthew the Evangelist" is an unusual title. The only objection seems to be from somebody putting forward a peculiar minority theological POV, objecting to describing anyone as a saint. PatGallacher (talk) 12:46, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Vuelta al País Vasco → Tour of the Basque Country — This race's common English name is, well, its English name. 1.3 million ghits for English, 331,000 for Spanish when wikipedia is discounted. We do not have, say, Giro d'Italia, at that title out of any conspicuous preference for local names, we have it there because that is the common name of that race in English. In any case, this race has two local names, and the one not used as an article title, arguably the "local-er," would be even more incomprehensible and impossible to pronounce for an English monolingual than this one is. The American TV network covering this race calls it by the English name; I'm naturally uncertain of English-language coverage in other parts of the world, and would be open to withdrawing this request if such evidence goes against it. (Discuss) — Suction diesel injection → Suction-diesel Direct Injection — A closer translation of the German name Saugdiesel Direkt Einspritzung, and since this article is specifically about engines produced by Volkswagen Group under the "SDI" brand, there should be an uppercase "S", "D" and "I" in there somewhere Letdorf (talk) 13:21, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Homer's Odyssey (The Simpsons) → Homer's Odyssey — I'm wondering if this page should be moved to Homer's Odyssey, with a hatnote on the episode page linking to theOdyssey. My reasoning is that "Homer's Odyssey" is the exact name of the episode, but not of the Odyssey, so the one whose "real" name it is should take precedence. --✶♏✶ 00:22, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Faked death → Pseudocide — That is the official term for faking one's death. Citations include a book and various websites. TurtleShroom! :)NOODY BRANCH! (Discuss) — Mar-Keys → The Mar-Keys — If you look at the discogs.com listing you see that most original releases (on Stax Records) by the band were credited to 'The Mar-Keys' not simply 'Mar-Keys' http://www.discogs.com/artist/Mar-Keys,+The. It was very common in the 1960s to deliberately use the "The" in the band name (applies to soul and to pop/rock groups) E-Kartoffel (talk) 18:26, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Geber → Jābir ibn Hayyān — I am requesting that this page be moved to Jābir ibn Hayyān and the page currently at that address, a redirect to this page, be either moved to this location or else simply deleted. (That page has no talk page and has had just a single edit to create the redirect.) If this goes ahead, I will then make this page, Geber, a disambiguation page for Jābir ibn Hayyān, Jabir ibn Aflah and pseudo-Geber. –Syncategoremata (talk) 15:52, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Patriarch Ignatius of Constantinople → Ignatius of Constantinople — As noted in WP:NCP additional qualifiers (such as "King", "Saint", "Dr.") should not be used, except for neutral disambiguation. The listed names do not require the titular prefix for disambiguation, disambiguation by city appears to be sufficient to distinguish them from those with similar names. Relisted. Jafeluv (talk) 09:24, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — House of Châteaudun → Angevins — See previous section. It is the more widely used term in medieval scholarship. Currently redirects to House of Anjou, a dab page. This page was previously moved without discussion. —Srnec (talk) 02:51, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

(Discuss) — Santa Catalina School for Girls → Santa Catalina School — Santa Catalina School is not only for girls. Our Lower School has boys and girls. We have never been known as "Santa Catalina School for Girls." "Santa Catalina School" is currently redirecting to "Santa Catalina School for Girls." Please correct. (Discuss) — 200 West Street → 200 West Street (New York) — * Many towns and cities likely have a West Street, and some of those West Streets likely have addresses up to or past 200. This building in New York may be very famous to Americans, but I here in England (and thus likely many more people) had never heard of it. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:56, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

(Discuss) — List of communities in Alberta → Municipalities of Alberta — Per this discussion, the name of this article is inconsistent with the name conventions used for Villages of Alberta, Summer villages of Alberta and Hamlets of Alberta. The article also is no longer a true list of all communities in Alberta. It is now a summary of all municipality types, statuses and sub-entities in Alberta that are recognized/established by Alberta Municipal Affairs. To address these two observations, it is proposed that this article be renamed to Municipalities of Alberta. This proposal is consistent with a similar proposal here (List of towns in Alberta → Towns of Alberta). Also note what is currently being discussed here as well with respect to the article's cities section.Cheers, --Hwy43 (talk) 05:21, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Yours as Fast as Mine → Yours As Fast As Mine — The album title is written as "Yours As Fast As Mine" on places such as iTunes and Amazon, so the article should match this. I don't understand why it was moved back to the lowercase spelling. StealthSoul (talk) 14:17, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

(Discuss) — User:PleaseStand/3RR → 3RR — The target name is WP:SALTed and I cannot create the page there myself. The reason was that it was a repeatedly reposted cross-namespace redirect to Wikipedia:Three-revert rule. I have addressed this concern by creating the page as a disambiguation page. PleaseStand(talk) 16:40, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Rastafari movement → Rastafari — Per this discussion, there seems to be differences of opinion on whether the article title should contain the word "movement". The word Rastafari alone is used as a noun to refer to this religious movement, although I'm not sure which name is used more commonly. Another alternative would be Rastafarianism, I suppose.Jafeluv (talk) 14:47, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Gin Chinese → Gin people — * The official name of them is not based on Chinese language, but native language. Gin and Kinh are different transcription of Vietnamese language of their endonym, just as the majority of China call themself Han people. In Chinese document, Chinese language is called "Han Chinese language" as "official English" in ethnic introduction and Vietnamese language is treated as the abbr of "Gin Vietnamese language" or "Gin language in Vietnam", whereas "Gin language in China" or simply "Gin language" refer the language of resident of Fangchenggang. --虞海 (Yú Hǎi) (talk) 06:48, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Ibn Sina Peak → Lenin Peak — The name of the peak has been Lenin Peak for decades, and is still the most used name in English. The official name of the peak in Kyrgyzstan is still Lenin Peak (peak lies on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan). "Ibn Sina Peak" name is only used in Tajikistan. (Discuss) — Ulema → Ulama — Yes, I see there was already a discussion about this archived below, but the vote was :2 support:3 neutral:2 opposeOf the two who oppose, both assert (without any support) that ulema is more common in English. Except it isn't. The Library of Congress and the Encyclopaedia Britannica both use ulama. Google pulls 3.78m for ulama -wiki versus 2.78m for ulema -wiki. The results show exactly what one would expect: ulema is a regional Turkish and Pakistani use; ulama is the proper Arabic term, more common in English, and used in organizations even in Indonesia, Pakistan, and Turkey. You'd think the idea of ulema as proper English comes from use under the British Raj or possibly British dealings with Ottoman Turkey, but google.co.uk gives 36,900 pages in the UK for ulama -wiki and only half as may (18k) for ulema -wiki. The page is in the wrong place. -LlywelynII (talk) 23:54, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

(Discuss) — Reno Silver Sox → Reno Silver Sox (Golden Baseball League) — The team that currently has the "(minor league team)" disambiguation had over 40 years of history and affiliation with Major League Baseball teams. On the other hand, the GBL team, currently at the disambiguous ambiguous title, existed under this name for 3 seasons. Ghits will be skewed in favor of the GBL team because it played in the internet age while the MiLB team disbanded in 1992. The GBL article also has a lot more inlinks but I suspect that a lot of them, including several MLB team season articles, are intended to point to the MiLB team, therefore I do think that the MiLB team is the primary topic. —KuyaBriBriTalk 20:21, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Wikipedia:About → Help:About — As well as a means of segregating information based on readership, the namespaces determine what sort of content can be expected. Wikipedia namespace is the project namespace and should be kept for editing and all other related pages. The Help namespace should be for help. This page is primarily for reader help and therefore should not be in Wikipedia namespace (which is for editors). (Discuss) — Kyiv Bilshovyk Uprising → Kiev Bolshevik Uprising — To substitute the Ukrainian words Kyiv (Київ) and Bilshovyk (Більшовик) for its English equivalents "Kiev" and "Bolshevik".Currently, this article is titled "Kyiv Bilshovyk Uprising". Wouldn't "Kiev Bolshevik Uprising" be a better title ? *It would be more consistent with the criteria mentioned in the "Deciding an article title" section of our policy on article titles.*It would be consistent with our entries on both Kiev & Bolshevik.*A Google Books search for "Kyiv Bilshovyk Uprising" comes up empty (although asking if I meant "Kyiv Bolshevik Uprising").
A Google Books search for "Kiev Bolshevik Uprising" doesn't return any direct results, but indicates that at the very least those words are used in English-language publications.I'm not familiar with the name(s) given to these events in English-language publications, and the current formulation is a good descriptive title, but at the very least we should make the words understandable to our anglophone readership. - Best, Ev (talk) 21:25, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — The Gambia → Gambia — Most other countries using the definate article are titled without it on Wikipedia, such as Netherlands and Philippines. I've read the above failed proposal, but I don't see any convincing reason not to move. 84.92.117.93 (talk) 20:31, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Cansei de Ser Sexy (album) → Cansei de Ser Sexy — The page for Cansei de Ser Sexy is currently a disambiguation for two articles: this one, and the one for the band, in which the Discussion found a consensus that the band's name should stay as an acronym. Thus, the only article that would have this full name spelled out would be this one, so to be more efficient, I suggest moving it to get rid of the (album) at the end, and deleting the disambiguation page in its place. (Discuss) — New town → Planned city — New Town is an odd read for many. These places are commonly called Planned cities and this term is commonly used in the article. As a part of this, it might be necessary to split off some of the UK stuff that clearly relates to a name used there for specific places. I'll add that new is a rather confusing term for places that have existed for hundreds of years. I'll add that the proposed name matches what is used on commons, Category:Planned cities. (Discuss) — If On a Winter's Night a Traveler → If on a winter's night a traveler — Since the above discussion, the article seems to have been moved to a new, incorrect, title. The actual title has subsequent edits, so we can't easily move on top of the redirect, and need admin assistance. http://catalog.loc.gov/ Confirms that the lower-case title is the correct one. (Discuss) — Impulse (disambiguation) → Impulse — The previous "Impulse" article was already moved to Mechanical impulse and is now a redirect. Completing the move of this dab page was contested on the grounds of being potentially controversial. Per the previous comment above, the word "impulse" is used as a title for many different subjects, and there is no demonstration of any primary topic. Hence, in lieu of any actual objections, I am requesting that this page be moved. Ham Pastrami (talk) 18:02, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Paramahamsa Nithyananda → Swami Nithyananda — The title Paramahamsa is a generic title for which there does not seem to be enough secondary sources. The subject is a Swami sometimes referred to as a Paramahamsa. Hence, this may be just included in the description rather than the name of the article. prashanthns (talk) 18:04, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Matthew Kaye → Matt Striker — Kaye has been performing under the "Matt Striker" name for a significant amount of his career, even when you discount his five years in WWE. I believe that a move to Matt Stiker would be ideal per WP:NAME. Θakster 14:26, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Stereotypes of white people → [[]] — I suggest that the article be renamed Prejudice/Discrimination against white people, or Anti-white sentiment/racism, along the lines of several other articles in the series. This article is part of the racism series, and is the only article that deals with racism against white people as a subject. An article which is solely about anti-white stereotypes is therefore inadequate. The article should also cover reverse discrimination, and racially-motivated crimes against white people, and all major themes and events which are or are alleged to relate to anti-white racism. (I'm aware that some of the other articles in the series also deal exclusively with 'stereotypes'; I would also support an equivalent page-move for those articles. I am aware this would be a seperate issue, but I thought I would point it out in case anyone brought up the precedent of co-articles about stereotypes.)BillMasen (talk) 11:08, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

(Discuss) — Sándor Radó → Alexander Rado — When checking what articles link to this one I noticed several links from the redirect "Sandor Rado" that were about a totally different person (I have since disambiguated these links to Sandor Rado (psychoanalyst). It seems there's another notable person going by the name of Sandor Rado, and considering the subject of this article is more widely known by the name "Alexander Rado", maybe that would be a better choice for the article title. -- œ™ 23:11, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Cal Poly San Luis Obispo College of Engineering → Cal Poly College of Engineering (San Luis Obispo) — The name of the College of Engineering is "Cal Poly College of Engineering." See ceng.calpoly.edu. The university notes its official name as "Cal Poly" and "California Polytechnic State University." See http://warc.calpoly.edu/universityid/univnameuse.html. The usage of "Cal Poly San Luis Obispo" is explicitly rejected. Id. In addition to offical name usage, it is the name that is commonly used: the College of Engineering itself uses it (see again, ceng.calpoly.edu); calpoly.edu, calpoly.com, calpoly.net, calpoly.org are all owned by Cal Poly and associated with Cal Poly servers; Cal Poly does not use "San Luis Obispo" in its athletic teams (see http://gopoly.com/), facebook uses "Cal Poly" to denote the university, etc. This is in contrast to "Cal Poly Pomona," which explicitly rejects usage of "Cal Poly" without "Pomona" (see http://www.csupomona.edu/~publicaffairs/graphics/nomenclature.shtml); does not use "calpoly" in its web address (see csupomona.edu), is not the original Cal Poly, and does not label its engineering college without the word "Pomona." Furthermore, the "Cal Poly College of Engineering" artile used to directly go what is now the "Cal Poly San Luis Obispo College of Engineering" article. It was only recently changed, and the change was erroneous. In an effort to compromise, I suggest moving this page to "Cal Poly College of Engineering (San Luis Obispo)." (Discuss) — BevMo! → Beverages & More — "Beverages & More" is the full, and most recognizable, name for this topic and therefore the appropriate name per WP:TITLE. "BevMo" is an abbreviation only appropriate within a context of established familiarity, e.g. the outside source cited [5] only uses "BevMo" after properly introducing the company as "Beverages & More". Additionally, the exclamation point should be dropped per MOS:TM. ENeville (talk) 02:30, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Silver Ferns → New Zealand national netball team — The convention regarding articles about national sports teams is to title them "<country> national <sport> team". I don't see sufficient reason why these teams (including the ones listed below) should be an exception. The conventional titles would be more intuitive, since the nicknames of these teams are largely unknown outside of their respective countries. At test level the teams are just as likely to be referred to as "New Zealand" or "Jamaica", as they would "Silver Ferns" or "Sunshine Girls". There may be a somewhat more difficult case with "Silver Ferns" given the team's profile in New Zealand: see Talk:New Zealand national rugby union team/Archive 4#Requested move for a similar discussion. – Liveste (talk • edits) 03:24, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

(Discuss) — Template:Article issues → template:multiple issues — This is a redirect to the current title, but is a more appropriate name for the template. Firstly, it makes the purpose of the template clearer (that it consolidates multiple cleanup tags), and secondly it better fits the situation where only one section of the article is affected. Lastly, it avoids the tautology whereby most instances of the template are called with article issues|article=yes. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 09:58, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Archbishop Iakovos of America → Iakovos (Koukouzis) — To start removing the honours of religious officials that are not the head of a given denomination. As noted in WP:NCP additional qualifiers (such as "King", "Saint", "Dr.") should not be used. WP:NCWC permits titular prefixes for Eastern Orthodox Metropolitans, Archbishops and Bishops, which is obviously in conflict with WP:NCP. the issue is currently being resolved here, and currently no opposition exists with removing the prefixes so long as the individual is not the head of an autocephalous church. The religious name is first, followed by the family name in brackets. It appears to be the common practice, although I have no personal opinion on the matter and am open to suggestions. My focus is the removal of the titular prefixes. Labattblueboy (talk) 05:38, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — János Szapolyai → John Zapolya — The proposed name is so often used (as opposed to the current name) that it is simply ridiculous not to use it. 477 English language books published after 1990 refer to him as John Zapolya. On the other hand, only 82 English language books published after 1990 refer to him as János Szapolyai. Surtsicna (talk) 12:03, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
(Discuss) — Afro-Brazilian → [[]] — If it is correct that neither official sources nor the academic world nor people in Brazil refer to these groups as 'African Brazilians' or 'Afro-Brazilians' but use the term 'negro' and 'pardo', then this certainly means the naming of this article can't be upheld. It can be determined in a later step whether a separate article is appropriate for 'pardos' or whether it makes more sense to cover this group in a substantial extent within this article. The naming of Black people in France or Black people in Europe seems to be a more appropriate naming scheme for this. The alternative name 'Brazilians of Black African ancestry' (such as in Portuguese of Black African ancestry) seems to be somewhat acceptable, but inferior as it ignores the fact that race is a socially constructed concept and not immediately bound to a specific ancestry.
